What’s the difference between upcycled and recycled?
We make a distinction because the amount of energy involved can vary drastically. Upcycling generally uses less, since it takes an existing material and pushes it ā€œupā€ into another use with minimal processing. For example, our upcycled yarn is made from discarded clothing scraps that can be mechanically processed back into yarn without dyes or chemicals.

Recycling, on the other hand, involves breaking a material down and remanufacturing it into something completely new—like turning plastic bottles into polyester yarn. This process often requires significant energy and can leave a larger carbon footprint.

Both upcycling and recycling play important roles in sustainability, each with their own pros and cons.
